MY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Why I Care

During Middle School I was overweight and bullied at times.  I struggled, as many kids do, to find what made me special.  I had low confidence and didn't believe in myself.
I actually told my mother I didn't want to be smart because it wasn't cool.

...Can you believe that?

I found solace in exercising, thanks to my older brother Ryan. Exercising changed my mind and body; I finally respected myself and earned the respect of my peers, which I craved.

Fast forward a little...

I enjoyed success athletically in High School, but really hit my stride when I earned the 2nd best freshman finish and 4th overall finish at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships competing in the Javelin Throw for Temple University (Division 1 Track Program at the time).

I earned by B.A. in Broadcast Journalism from Temple University.  I compiled a laundry list of accolades as a college journalist and broadcaster.

ALL IS GOOD IN THE WORLD...RIGHT?

After graduation, I hit a couple of tough breaks professionally.  My confidence was fleeting.  I relied on my job as a waiter/bartender  to pay the bills... and  relied on the party scene at night to make myself feel good.
...There was that feeling again I had missed. I felt cool, wanted and in control of my life again (oh sweet dopamine), or so I thought.
And then I realized I was further from myself than I had ever been when I completely bombed and embarrassed myself in an interview with ESPN Radio in NYC.

I lost myself, again...this is the same company I had interned with in Philadelphia just two years prior.  I crushed that internship and was actually hired on the spot.  I was the only intern to produce content for their website.

Freshman/Sophomore of college, no doubt. I had a mission, a goal, my health and unbelievable motivation.   In short, I had purpose and a "Why."

So I kept it simple and got healthy again. In time, I switched bartending out for personal training.

The growing pains didn't stop here and I realized they would never stop.
The internal work on myself took years before I reached any kind of authentic outward focus for others.  In short, what I'm saying is my desire to be a personal trainer was self absorption initially.

Just shy of a decade into my life's vocation and I've come away with answers that will sustain me for life (of course these will grow over time)...

A: Awareness
N: Nutrition
S: Self-Empathy
W: Wins (celebrate the small stuff)
E: Expectations (have correct ones)
R: Recovery
S: Success
